Historic 1934 Home Minutes From the Ocean
Located across the street from Carlsmith Beach Park and just steps from the water of Hilo's most popular beach sits an historic Japanese style estate. This beautiful house has been frequented by travelers for over twenty years and is the perfect spot for a couple's getaway or any kind of Hawaii vacation.
This beautiful home was designed and built in 1934 by one of Hawaii's legendary architects, Frank Arakawa. Mr. Arakawa, a second generation Japanese-Hawaiian resident and US army veteran, spent almost two decades designing buildings in Hawaii County, mostly in Hilo. Hilo High School, East Hawaii Cultural Center, and many other schools, churches, and commercial buildings on this island exist thanks to Frank Arakawa.
Now, nearly 90 years after the home was built, it still stand strong today. Tastefully remodeled with some modern updates, this house still maintains much of the old design and ideas incorporated from the home's beginning. Now this home is shared with travelers as a charming vacation lodge in Hilo's most desirable neighborhood.
